Change the World One Letter at a Time!

Be a part of something big. This summer(2014) I will be writing a letter a day to various people. I am challenging each of you(I am assuming you are here because you got one of my letters) to write a letter to somebody. This way, we can make a change for good in the world and we all can feel good about it!

Letters everywhere

I haven't been good at updating this blog.

If you have joined in, comment below. I'd love to hear about who you wrote to and why or just how it felt to get real mail.

I have skipped a day here and there but have been pretty good at writing daily for the most part. It's fun to write letters.

Well. Summer awaits. Get out there because winter comes too soon.

Week One Update

Hi all. I have been loving writing a letter each day. Seeing I am already a bit bored and lonely, it is good to have this "hobby."

I have sent off six letters this week:
1. Madison,Wisconsin
2. Mont Vernon, New Hampshire
3. Neenah, Wisconsin
4. Pleasant Grove, Utah
5. Masstown, Nova Scotia
6. Lindon, Utah

Are you gonna be on this week's list? Not if you haven't told me you want to be a part of this awesome adventure. Get on it, eh?

Cheers.

The Letter Experiment

Hi Folks-
If you are here, you probably received a letter from me. I love letters. There is nothing like getting a real, handwritten letter in the mail. I hardly ever get what I call "real" mail these days, but I get a whole lot of junk in the mail. My husband likes to refer to that kind of mail as, "The postal service's bread and butter."  He has a point, advertisements probably keep the postal service going, seeing people don't send letters to each other anymore. It is just too easy to email or text. It kind of makes me sad to think that putting pen to paper is slowly dying out in our digitized social media society.

So, that's why I've started this experiment. I want to send happy feelings to people as they get my letters in the mail. I want to share with others the delight of opening the mailbox and finding something more than junk mail in their mailbox.  This summer, I am going to send out a letter each day the mail service picks up mail. That is six times a week(at least, I may be ambisious and go for more than one some days!).

This is also a pay it forward kind of deal. You are not obligated to write a letter to me, even though I with graciously take them. You are the boss of yourself and don't even have to write to somebody in your sphere, but I challenge you to do so. Remember how good it felt to get that letter from me? Don't you think somebody else deserves that feeling?  Maybe it's your mom, or crazy Aunt Sally. Maybe it is a complete stranger who you feel like making a non-stranger.  It might even be a soldier who deserves some thanks and recognition or somebody who has been nice to you, even when it was hard to be nice to you. You can be bold and make a difference in somebody's life, or you could not.  It's really up to you, but I really think the ripples of this little idea that I came up with could be epic.  We could bring a little light into the darkness that seems to be pretty prevailant in our world today.  So many people need light in their lives these days.  Make a difference, one letter at a time.

Thanks for stopping by.  Check back.  I might create a twitter account that ties to this crazy wonderful adventure.  Have a great day and seriously, think about writinig one little letter.  We could change the world here people.

Always experimenting.

I love to get mail. It isn't summer, but I would still love to head from you. If you write me a postcard, I will send you one in return. Thanks for changing the world one postcard at a time!

Let the Experiement Begin Again!

Here we are in summer.  That means that Alice is in full summer mode(well at least she will be when summer school is over on Thursday!).  This means she is up to no good.  Just kidding, it means that she is off to the summer of adventure.  Soon she will be traveling with her new husband, Reuben, to the land of cheese with many pitstops along the route.  She loves to buy postcards and brighten people's day.  Don't you want to be one of those people?  I knew it.  Send her an email and she will write down your address and send you a postcard soon.  Also, she will email you her address and instantly you have a new pen pal.

Alice really misses the days when she would correspond with friends and family via snail mail and every summer she finds that this is a great way to reconnect both to her past and to her favorite peeps!

So, what you waiting for?  Email Alice(softballrita@gmail.com) and look for the coolest postcard.  This year's contest will include prizes to the furthest away sent postcard, the 1st celebrity prize, and the most funny/creative postcard.   The winners will get a prize!  Last year, it was a very cool t-shirt.  Who knows what the greatness will bring this year?

And Alice never really understands why she sometimes talks about herself in the third person.  Random!

If this were a postcard...

I would send it out to all my friends this week. Awesome concert with great company. I love Kelly Clarkson and Jill and Kate. So fun!!!

Well, well, well!

So. Did you know the postcard experiment is still moving forward? I have decided to not take any more pictures of the postcards I have recently sent. I am going to do a whole new restart, including starting a whole new count.

The winner for the first challenge is Robin. She will be receiving a very cool t-shirt from Rhinelander in the very near future(near being whenever I get to sending it! Soon!)

As for writing...please send me a postcard sometime(The new address is up on the top!). I am sure you are out having adventures as the fall is starting! And if you get a card in the mail, join in the revolution.

Cheers,
Alice

Update and New Challenge!!!

Hey all you crazies that actually come and read this blog. Okay, so you are not crazy but are actually amazing people! Here is the deal. I just sent out postcard #86 today. I am only going to send postcards to people who are writing me back(I have sent some to people who haven't written but this will cease until #100 goes out!) and there is going to be a prize to the person who gets #100(something Wisconsin themed. It will be a package that I will send to you!). This means you should join in and go postcard crazy. I still have not had any postcards from strangers, so tell your friends and if you know a celebrity, tell them it is my last wish to get a postcard from them. (Maybe then tell them that I am really not dying because I don't like to lie and really don't want you, my friends, to lie either!:) Happy Writing!

The postcard mirror is full...

But still join the revolution and send me a postcard. And thanks to all of you who are writing. You rock!!

Thanks for being a part of the revolution!

I post the cards on my bedroom mirror!

Aren't these drawings from the nephews cool?

Hey all. Thanks so much to all of you who have already been a part of the postcard experiment. I am loving hearing about your adventures. Do know, if you do write me, you are guaranteed a genuine response. (Unless you don't sign it-I did get one last week and I don't know who you are. Also, if I don't have your address it is challenging to write you!) I will never be too busy for my peeps! Haha. I was so trying to sound Diva and that is just so not me!

I really think I am going to have a goal to get more postcards from strangers. That would be cool, wouldn't it? Or would that be a little creepy? I also think a postcard from a famous person or two or ten would be cool. (Dear famous people...I promise to send you a postcard back...even if it is a virtual one via twitter! That way you I won't seem like a crazy stalker! Oh wait, I think that is what a crazy stalker might say! But I am not a crazy stalker, just a crazy high school teacher! I fully admit the crazy part! Oh great now you really won't send me a postcard. I will stop pleading now!) So if you are famous, join the revolution!

Thanks again and get out and have some more adventures(and Remember to buy a postcard after!). They await!

Hey R-I hope you are having a great day. I bet you'll see me in Appleton before you get this but I thought a surprise in the mail would be nice. We stopped at this candy shop today and it was so cool. They had every candy you could imagine! I got a triple dipped malt ball. It was yummy! Hope you're well! Alice
